FSSAI Food License is compulsory License to be obtained before commencing any food business by any legal entity involved in handling food items e.g. Manufacturer, Repacked, Relabeller, Storage, Warehousing, Transporter, Supplier, Wholesaler, Marketer (Trader), Retailer, E-commerce (Online sale of food), Exporter, Importer, Caterer, Canteen, Dhaba, Restaurants, Hotels etc..  Food Handlers are called Food Business Operators FBO in FSSAI.

There are 3 types of FSSAI License. 1. FSSAI Central License, 2. FSSAI State License 3. FSSAI Registration Certificate. Food Business Operators (FBO) depending upon their Per Day Manufacturing Capacity or Annual Turnover criteria can apply for respective FSSAI Central License, FSSAI State Food License Registration by applying with respective FSSAI Office in their City, State, Regional or Central FSSAI Offices through FSSAI online registration / FSSAI online application and offline applications by paying prescribed FSSAI fees (FSSAI license cost). FSSAI License can be availed for Minimum 1 year and Maximum 5 Years terms.

The Government of India through Gazette Notification enacted Food and Safety Standard Act in the year 2006 shortly called FSS Act, 2006.

What is FSS (Food Safety Standards) Act 2006?

FSSAI has repealed various prevailing act and rules on various food items were consolidate to make one Food Act by establishing the FSSAI Food Safety and Standards Authority of India for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

How many acts are repealed by Food Safety and Standard Act 2006?

Total Seven Acts repealed by Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 as below.

  1. The Edible Oils Packaging (Regulation) Order 1998.
  2. Fruit Products Order (FPO), 1955
  3. Meat Food Products Order (MFPO) DIVISION
  4. Milk and Milk Product Amendment Regulations, 2009
  5. Prevention of Food Adulteration Act,1954
  6. Solvent Extracted Oil, De-oiled Meal and Edible Flour (Control) Order, 1967
  7. Vegetable Oil Product Order, 1980
What is Food Safety Standards Regulations?

FSS Regulations are published by FSSAI under FSS Act 2006 and FSS Rules, 2011 as implementation and monitoring FSSAI guidelines to be followed by FBO FSSAI in India. Following Food Safety and Standards Regulations published by FSSAI for compliance,

There are six principal FSS regulations notified on 1 August 2011,

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established under Food Safety and Standards, 2006 which consolidates various acts & orders that have hitherto handled food related issues in various Ministries and Departments. Food License checking is easy. You can simply track your FSSAI License application by using application ref. no. on Food Licensing and Registration System FLRS.

How can I change my address in FSSAI License Online?

Login with your user credential and select apply for modification from the Tab modification and proceed to the concerned license no. (FSSAI number) and select the reason for medication (Address Change). Fee will be applicable only for modification in information printed on license issued. It is known as Form-C modification. If you would like to modify information which is not printed on License then you have to apply for Non-Form C modification.

According to Type of Food License cost or FSSAI Licence fees is. For FSSAI Central License fees is Rs. 7500 for one year. For FSSAI State License fees is Rs. 2000 and Rs. 5000 for one year respectively for non-manufacturing and manufacturing food business… FSSAI registration fees is Rs. 100 for one year. FSSAI License or registration can be applied for a maximum 5 years term.
